WHO WE ARE
Mark’s relationship with God has grown three-fold over the past 15 years. He was raised by his grandparents and was taught to use God’s Word for directing his life. As a result, he is known to be a man of integrity, discipline, and light-heartedness. However, early in his adult life, he began questioning the significance of having a relationship with Christ due to societal issues that distorted his understanding and acceptance of Christ. Mark was God-fearing without a relationship with Christ. Nonetheless, God knew Mark’s heart and just like Cornelius in Acts 10, God brought Mark to his son, Christ.
Mark was ordained a minister September 2013 and became the Assistant Minister at Westside Church of Christ, San Mateo, CA. After relocating to Texas, Mark was nominated and elected an elder October 2016 at Singing Oaks Church of Christ, Denton, TX.
Mark’s primary focus over the past 30 years has been helping college students develop interpersonal, professional and communication skills. He has participated in programs such as The Black Man Think Tank (Ohio University), Blacks in the Corporate Environment (The Ohio State University), and the Summer Bridge Program (St. Augustine’s College) just to name a few. Mark, along with wife Spring, developed the African-American Academy of Excellence summer enrichment program for middle school students in Columbus, OH. From 2002 – 2010, he served as the Executive Director of Right Now, Inc., a nonprofit company focused on improving the quality of life for low-income families through a series of social and academic enrichment programs targeted at youth/adult development.
Mark has over 30 years of professional experience in the telecommunication industry. He received a Bachelor’s of Science in Electronic Engineering Technology from DeVry Institute of Technology, Columbus, OH, and a Master’s of Science in Computer Information and Science from The Ohio State University, Columbus, OH.
Mark has been married to Spring for more than 32 years; they have three adult children and two grandkids. Spring tag teams with Mark when appropriate, such as the marriage/family workshops. They enjoy showing both the male and female perspective in growing a relationship with God and with each other.
